Abstract

This study explores nationalism and national identity in Indonesia, emphasizing their historical roots, cultural dimensions, and relevance in the era of globalization. Indonesian nationalism is unique because it emerged not only from colonial experience and political struggle but also from religious values and local wisdom. Using a literature study approach, this research reviews various academic perspectives showing that nationalism plays a crucial role in fostering unity within Indonesia's ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity. National identity is understood as a collective construct shaped by history, national symbols, and values transmitted across generations. The findings suggest that inclusive nationalism can serve as a unifying force and a strategic response to the challenges of modernization, globalization, and foreign cultural influence while preserving the nation's distinctive character.
