Abstract

This study aims to recontextualize the political thought and legacy of Mohammad Natsir as an analytical tool and critical instrument against the symptoms of ideological decay within contemporary Islamic parties in Indonesia. Utilizing a library research method with historical-philosophical, textual criticism, and comparative approaches, this study dissects the root causes of the shift in post-Reformation Islamic political orientation. The results reveal a sharp epistemic and practical gap between Mohammad Natsir's political idealism and the reality of modern Islamic parties. Natsir's concept of "Theistic Democracy" and political ethics based on akhlakul karimah stand in diametrical contrast to the phenomena of deideologization, the commodification of religion, and transactional pragmatism in contemporary political parties that have transformed into catch-all parties and fallen into the logic of cartel parties for rent seeking purposes. As a remedy, this study formulates three pillars of conceptual reorientation: institutional ijtihad through financial decentralization (crowdfunding), the revitalization of ethics-based cadreization, and a repositioning toward substantive programmatic value politics to manifest the order of rahmatan lil 'alamin
